College Financial Aid Workshop and Upcoming College and Career Events

UHS 11th and 12th grade families,

Please join us on September 30 from 6:30-730 p.m. in the UHS Commons for a Financial Aid workshop. This event is open to all juniors and seniors and their families. We will provide refreshments and there will be several giveaway drawings for those in attendance. 

This session will outline the general financial aid process and provide insight on how financial aid works, how to apply for it, student eligibility, and how it can be used to help pay for college. Students and families will also learn about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid. As a reminder, filling out the FAFSA is a graduation requirement. 

In addition to next week's event, please mark your calendars for the following events:

• October 1: FAFSA Opens
• October 7: One Click College Admit for juniors:This is a virtual presentation at 7:30 p.m.
  • During this workshop students can opt-in to the Illinois Direct Admissions program called One Click College Admit. It's the free, quick, and stress-free way to be considered for admission to Illinois public universities and community colleges. There is no application fee, essay, or letter of recommendation required for this program.
• October 29: FAFSA Workshop for seniors and their families from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in room 2152 at UHS
  • During this workshop students will be able to complete either the FAFSA or the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid. These are the forms used to apply for financial aid, such as the Federal Pell Grant and/or the Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP). Many colleges also use these forms to consider students for institutional money. Individuals should create a StudentAid.gov account prior to the workshop to be able to start the FAFSA. 
• November 12: All About Scholarships for junior and senior students: This is held in room 2152 at 11 a.m.
• December 1: Being a First Generation College Student: This session is for seniors and is held in room 2152 at 11 a.m.
