About Urbana High School

Urbana High School (UHS) is a vibrant learning community serving students in grades 9–12 in Urbana, Illinois. UHS is committed to preparing every student for success in college, careers, military service, and life beyond graduation. 

At UHS, students have access to a wide range of rigorous academic courses, Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, Advanced Placement (AP) opportunities, dual credit courses, fine arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities that allow them to explore their interests and discover their passions. Through personalized support from teachers, counselors, and staff, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, develop leadership skills, and become engaged members of their school and community.

Our diverse student body reflects the rich cultures and perspectives that make Urbana unique. We believe every student deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported in an inclusive learning environment where belonging is a priority. 

School Improvement Goals

Each year, our schools develop School Improvement Goals to guide continuous growth and student success. By focusing on key areas for improvement, we can strengthen teaching and learning, support student well-being, and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. 

Attendance

By May 2027, UHS will decrease chronic absenteeism to 39% of students or less.

Culture & Climate

Reduce exclusionary discipline incidents for all students by the end of the school year (reduce by 10% as compared to the previous school year).

Graduation

By the end of the 2027 academic year, Urbana School District 116 will increase the graduation rate by one to two percent for all students.

Family Engagement

Parents and schools form a partnership that is needed for the success of all students. Parents play a critical role in their child’s education. It is, therefore, important that parents always feel free to contact teachers, coaches, counselors, school administrators, and any other staff member in order to collaboratively find the best plan available to assist in students’ success. There are many opportunities for parents to be involved and learn about Urbana High School whether through our volunteer program or our open-door classroom policy. Please contact UHS to learn more about these great opportunities, like Parent Teacher Student Association, Booster Clubs, Mentoring One-on-One, and more.

September: Curriculum Night

This is an opportunity to meet your student's teachers, learn more about what they will learn this year and explore ways to support your student’s success.

November: Family Reading Night

Family Reading Night is an annual statewide event encouraging families to spend quality time reading together. When families read together, you create a positive at-home learning environment that fosters language arts skills and a rich love for literacy and reading.

February: Social Emotional Learning Night

Learn more about our SEL curriculum, 7 Mindsets, through engaging activities that build real-life skills for emotional well-being and foster community connection.

March: Math and Science Night

Explore math and science concepts through interactive, hands-on activities that promote curiosity & problem-solving.
